St John's Institute of Dermatology
Provides an overview of the dermatological services offered to adults and children. It contains a number of videos produced by the BAD and St John’s Institute of Dermatology for patients on how to use topical steroids, emollients and how to treat scalp psoriasis.
British Association of Dermatologists
Patient information downloadable leaflets offer expert sources of information across the whole spectrum of skin related topics, including dermatological conditions, symptoms and treatments. The website also has links to various patient support groups.
DermNet New Zealand
Provides an A-Z of dermatology topics, which can be translated into many different languages.
Skin Support (supported by the BAD)
Provides emotional support to patients with psychological distress caused by their skin disease.
Research – Clinical Trials
The severe eczema and psoriasis teams at St John’s Institute are actively involved in clinical research in dermatology. This research provides a better understanding of what causes skin, conditions, provides the newest in skin treatment and personalises available therapies to individual patients to maximise their effect and minimise side effects. The research team run trials with the latest therapies emerging in the fields of eczema and psoriasis.

Paediatric Dermatology – Unit for Population-Based Dermatology Research
The Unit for Population-Based Dermatology Research is based at the St Thomas’ Hospital Campus and headed by Carsten Flohr, Professor and Consultant Dermatologist, and conducts translational and clinical research into the prevention, epidemiology and treatment of skin diseases, with a particular focus on paediatric atopic eczema. This is done through collaboration on large cohort and intervention studies, such as the Enquiring About Tolerance (EAT) study, the PROmotion of Breastfeeding Intervention Trial (PROBIT), and the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC). The Unit also leads a national trial comparing the efficacy, safety and cost-effectiveness of cyclosporine with methotrexate in severe paediatric eczema (TREAT trial) as well as an eczema prevention trial with water softeners (SOFTER), and the UK-Irish Atopic eczema Systemic TherApies Register (A*STAR).
A national cohort study of adult and paediatric patients on conventional and novel biologic treatments for severe atopic eczema is currently in set up.
