Who Should Attend?
This course is aimed at registered healthcare professionals, especially nurses, who are new to, or early in their development of skin surgery skills. Junior doctors without procedural dermatology experience are welcome to join the course. This includes foundation year doctors, junior clinical fellows or speciality registrars from non-dermatology backgrounds.

Programme Overview
The skin biopsy course is designed to introduce the learner to practical skills in dermatological surgery. It is a blended learning experience involving 2 days of face-to-face teaching delivered by experts in the field of dermatological surgery, alongside access to our bespoke online learning platform, housing our skin surgery lectures and procedural videos.

The face-to-face teaching programme includes a selection of tailored theory lectures in the mornings, followed by supervised surgical technique practice in the teaching laboratory. We maintain a high ratio of students to supervisors throughout all practical sessions.

Theory lectures (pre-attendance and face to face) will include: skin histopathology, surgical anatomy, local anaesthetic, medico-legal aspects of skin surgery, minor surgery planning, surgery preparation, surgical wound care, and potential complications of surgery.

The practical sessions will cover: local anaesthetic administration, basic biopsy techniques (shave, punch), skin lesion excision, along with suturing and haemostasis techniques.

A course certificate is provided upon completion.
